Dear Community Partners and Health Care Professionals, The American Cancer Society and Americans For Nonsmokers’ Rights cordially invite you to attend the Augusta Smoke-Free Air Leadership Training on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at the Richmond County Health Department. We are excited about engaging with local community leaders and health care professionals to discuss the importance and need for Augusta/Richmond County to adopt a smoke-free law that protects all workers from the dangers of second-hand smoke. Since the 2006 Surgeon General’s Report on second-hand smoke concluded that there is no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke and that establishing smoke-free environments is the only proven way to prevent exposure, public health officials and lawmakers have worked together across the country to ensure that all workers and patrons can work and dine in smoke-free environments. Beginning with this leadership training, we hope that the city of Augusta, as have other major cities around the country including the city of Savannah, GA, will organize and mobilize support for a smoke-free Augusta. If you can not attend, we ask that you please identify a person to attend on your behalf. Lunch will also be provided. To register for the training email Eric Bailey at eric.bailey@cancer.org. Let’s Continue To Make Public Health a Priority! |
